Alphabet employees announce new global union coalition to build a more ethical and responsible company.
Named in recognition of the parent company of Google Alphabet, Alpha Global was created in coordination with UNI Global Union, the global union federation which unites 20 million employees from many sectors of the service sector, including information, communications , technology and services.
"A joint statement announcing the alliance says" [Google] is a place where many employees have changed the world, only to find that Google is restricting speech and cracking down on workers' organization while consolidating monopoly control.
In order to ensure that the company lives up to its declared ideals, the unions of Alpha Global commit to:
Create a common strategy and support everyone's demands as well as our collective goals.
Work side by side to build local organizations that reflect employee values and interests.
Fight for the rights of Alphabet's direct employees as well as temporary workers, salespeople and contract workers
Call on other unions to join our fight and support our movement for Alphabet and all tech workers.
The alliance says the organization has "long lost its attachment to its original mission: 'Don't be mean.' Well, we didn't. “We are going to keep Alphabet responsible together. We are going to change the alphabet together.
