Twitter launches its fact-checking program

Twitter  has announced its new fact-checking system in

which its own users can participate. Birdwatch'

Birdwatch allows people to identify information in Tweets

that they believe to be misleading and to write notes that

 provide informative context.

We believe this approach has the potential to react quickly when misleading

information leaks out, adding a context in which people trust and find valuable.

Ultimately, we aim to make the ratings visible

directly on Tweets to the global Twitter audience, when there is consensus from a broad and diverse set of contributors.

In this first phase of the pilot, the notes will only be

visible on a   separate  Birdwatch site On this site, pilot participants can also rate the

usefulness of notes added by other contributors. These notes are intentionally separated from Twitter for now, as we build Birdwatch and gain confidence that it produces context that people find useful and appropriate. Additionally, ratings will not affect how people view Tweets or our system recommendations.
