Despite the pandemic, Rivian continues to progress. Already valued at nearly $ 25 billion, the start-up has just completed a new round of funding which has enabled it to raise again $ 2.65 billion from a group of investors.
In all, it is already $ 8 billion that the electric vehicle manufacturer has managed to raise when it has not yet sold a single vehicle. This new contribution of fresh money will enable it to finance the launch of its first vehicles.
First vehicles in 2021
If, for the moment, Rivian has contented itself with presenting its vehicles, the start-up has not yet sold any. With this second fundraising, the company intends to launch the marketing of three models.
Thus, its R1S SUV, its R1T pick-up and the delivery van for the giant Amazon are in the starting blocks for launch during the next summer. Initially scheduled to be launched in 2020, Rivian had to review its plan to adapt to the global pandemic which put the brakes on its ambitions for a few months.
The vehicles will be assembled at a former Mitsubishi plant in Illinois. The first models of the R1S and R1T should offer a range of around 460 km then, in the future, with a new battery, the range can exceed 600 km on a charge.
