Electric car: Volkswagen and Tesla neck and neck in Europe

The global sales of electric cars have doubled, according to the foreign analyst AlixPartners consultancy group in the automotive industry. This is the result of the car makers electrification index created by the cabinet.

If Tesla is the first manufacturer in their classification, the German Volkswagen manufacturer made a big leap in the fourth quarter of 2020, including its ID.3, which since commercialization has found its audience.

A relevant clue?

The AlixPartners index is known as the e-range which takes the autonomy of any model provided by global producers into account by a 100% electric mode. The residual meaning is the product of the acceptance processes. A Renault Zoe of latest generation is thus 395 kilometers in worth while a hybrid connector has a range of only ten miles in pure electric mode.

For Europe, Volkswagen delivered 40 million kilometers of electricity in the fourth quarter of 2020 (number of vehicles sold multiplied by their autonomy, and for each model sold). In the same time, during Tesla, which is as wide as the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Partnership, the equivalent of19 million kilometres was sold. With the 17,2 million kilometers pursued Hyundai closely, followed by the PSA party that over the entire time sold 10,7 million kilometres.

Tesla remains the king globally

If Tesla was stolen from the e-range index by Volkswagen in Europe, globally, the Californian manufacturer remains the first, by far, with the equivalent of 100 million kilometers of electric autonomy sold. over the same period. Its German rival reached second place with 45 million kilometers, which represents an increase of 300% for the latter in the space of a year.

If the index shows an increase of + 104% of electric kilometers sold, compared to the same period in 2019, Europe stands out with a jump of +180% boosted by Germany and France, with respectively +525% and +207%.
